A 2013 Volkswagen driven by Stevan Ramirez ran over Pendleton while he was lying in the roadway. Pendleton was transported to Florida Hospital of North Pinellas where he was pronounced dead.

Pedestrian crashes claim, on average, two lives per day in Florida. Last year, there were over 10,000 reported pedestrian crashes. A pedestrian is especially vulnerable while on busy roadways at nighttime hours, as in this accident. A pedestrian who uses the road at night should take certain safety precautions, including walking in only well-lighted areas, carrying a flashlight or other illuminating device and remaining far enough off the roadway to avoid being struck by a vehicle. At this time, there is not enough information available to determine whether the drivers or pedestrian might be at fault for this pedestrian's death. A continuing police investigation will provide additional answers.
