Titusville, FL (June 20, 2018) – A man from Titusville lost his life in a deadly motorcycle accident that took place yesterday afternoon around 12:35 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol responded.
The man was identified as 59-year-old Wallace Ayers, who lost his life along US 1 and Jay Jay Road. The incident took place when 81-year-old Jo Kerr was driving a Honda and stopped in the westbound lane of an intersection. Kerr attempted to make a left turn to travel southbound onto US 1. At the same time, Ayers started traveling through the intersection on his motorcycle.
As a result, Kerr turned directly into the path of Ayers. The front of her vehicle struck the left rear of the motorcycle, sending Ayers right off the bike. Ayers was not wearing a helmet at the time and was taken to the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville with severe injuries. There, he was pronounced dead.
Kerr did not suffer injuries in the accident.
The accident is still being investigated at this time.
Motorcycle accidents involving a left turn account for a large percentage of motorcycle accidents. In 2/3 of all motorcycle accidents, the other vehicle has violated the rider’s right-of-way in some way. Florida sees the highest amount of motorcycle crashes in the nation at this time.
