Volusia County, FL (June 18, 2020) - A 22-year-old man was killed after a crash involving an Amazon truck on I-95 in Volusia County. The crash happened on Thursday, June 18th on I-95.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the deceased victim was driving a 2000 Honda sedan when he stopped due to a hole in a tire. The victim activated his emergency lights and pulled into the right-hand lane of the roadway. While in the right lane, the Honda was hit by a tractor-trailer carrying Amazon packages. The Honda driver was killed as a result of the crash while the truck driver sustained minor injuries. About 200 gallons of fuel was spilled in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and neither has been identified. An investigation is ongoing and there is no word on whether any charges will be filed.
There are about 400,000 reportable crashes that take place in Florida every year. While most crash victims will walk away relatively unscathed, others will be killed or seriously injured. There is no guarantee that anyone who gets behind the wheel of a vehicle will be able to return home safely. Fatal car accidents in Florida often occur due to negligent and inattentive drivers. Police will continue to investigate this Volusia County crash in order to determine who should be held responsible.
Our condolences are with the victim's family during this difficult time.
