Eglin AFB, FL (August 30, 2018) - Four people are reported dead following a plane crash Thursday at Eglin Air Force Base. The crash happened about two miles north of the runway. Officials discovered the wreckage of the plane in a heavily wooded area upon arrival at the scene.
The accident happened around 10:35 am. It was originally thought that only one fatality had occurred but authorities later confirmed four fatalities. The aircraft is identified as a Beechcraft BE-60, originally from Toledo, Ohio. The deceased have not been named pending next-of-kin notification.
The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the crash and its cause. There is no word how the accident may have happened at this time pending a full investigation.
Sadly, many aviation accidents have fatal results. Air travel has many advantages over driving, including travel time and convenience. Airplanes are also generally far safer than vehicles and air travel is known as the safest method of travel based on crash statistics.
This does not mean that airplane and aviation accidents do not occur. From faulty equipment to pilot error to mechanical defects, airplane accidents happen across Florida every year. When these accidents occur, a full investigation into the crash is needed. The full investigation will determine the cause of the accident. Anyone injured in an aviation accident that was not their fault may have the right to bring suit against any negligent parties.
