Highlands City, FL (July 7, 2018) – In Highlands City, a man smashed his vehicle into a vacant business after an alleged road rage incident on the roadway. He died as a result, according to police, who were present at the scene.
The man was identified as 27-year-old Daniel Bagwell of Bartow. He was killed in the crash while the other driver involved, 22-year-old Brondon Manning of Lakeland, was not seriously injured. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that the whole accident could have been prevented, saving the life of the 27-year-old.
According to an investigation, both drivers were interactive aggressively on the roadway while they were driving south on US Highway 98 around 10:45 a.m. yesterday morning. The two vehicles initially made contact at an intersection in the area.
Both vehicles ended up crashing on the side of the road, where they both ran into a building. The impact was so forceful that one vehicle was sent southbound, while the other hit the side of the building. Witnesses in the area checked on the driver who appeared unconscious, and it was determined that he was not breathing.
Bagwell drove through a plastic fence and was impaled on the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but he was pronounced dead while there. At this time, Manning is cooperating with the investigation and has not been arrested.
