Police obtained cellphone video of a driver’s escape after they caused an accident and tried to flee the scene on Sunday afternoon. The driver is shown in the video inside his badly damaged silver Infiniti SUV, who reversed the vehicle out of the scene after the accident took place. Two people were shown approaching the driver and banging on his window, trying to get him to get out.
Then, the video goes on to show people trying to block him from leaving the scene and even going as far as to pry open the doors, as well as taking pictures of the car’s license plate. Somebody even used a mallet to smash the driver’s windows.
Though the driver was able to get away from the scene, police said that he was later taken into custody. He was identified as 25-year-old Maxwell Oleg Lagutenko. He was then charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and causing property damage and fleeing the scene.
The accident allegedly occurred when Lagutenko was traveling northbound on Biscayne Boulevard when he crossed the median into oncoming traffic. He fled the scene after being struck by a vehicle. The police said that he might have been “high on narcotics” at the time. He was taken into custody.
