Orlando, FL (September 23, 2018) - A bicycle accident in Orlando left a 13-year-old boy critically injured. The accident took place on Saturday, September 22nd.
According to authorities, the boy was riding his bicycle along Alafaya Trail when he was struck by a white vehicle. The vehicle briefly slowed down before fleeing in a northbound direction on Alafaya Trail. Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the injured boy to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Police are searching for the suspect vehicle and believe that it may have heavy front-end damage, indicative of being in a collision. Anyone with information is asked to call the police. There are no additional details available at this time.
Our condolences and hopes for a speedy recovery are with the boy involved in this terrible accident. Over 100 people were killed in bicycle accidents in Florida in 2017, and while we have no word on the details leading to this crash, we do know that a driver fled the scene. In Florida, all drivers are required to remain at the scene of a reportable crash in order to cooperate with law enforcement investigations into the accident. When the driver is apprehended, they will face both criminal as well as civil liability in connection with this crash.
