Tallahassee, FL (August 28, 2018) - A man from Tallahassee was seriously injured after crashing on Interstate 10 Saturday afternoon. The crash happened just before 2:00 pm in the eastbound lanes of the highway at mile marker 234.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 74 year old William Hendry suddenly blacked out while driving and crossed the center lanes of the highway. As Hendry was traveling in the opposite direction, his car struck the side of a semi-truck and then a Dodge pickup truck.
Hendry suffered serious injuries and was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The Dodge driver, 28 year old Preston Hancock, was critically injured and is also in the hospital. There is no update on the condition of either driver at this time.
Charges are pending according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
This accident shows us that some crashes can be caused by medical events. Heart attacks, strokes, and other emergency medical incidents can of course cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle resulting in serious and severe accidents like the one here. A pedestrian was killed in a crash that occurred in Sarasota on Wednesday, January 8th. Police say that a man was crossing US 301 near 18th Street around 8:45 p.m. when he was struck by a car. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with a police investigation. The victim was not in a crosswalk at the time the crash occurred. Police closed the northbound lanes of US 301 until about 12:30 a.m. when they reopened. Read more
