Wesley Chapel, FL (September 1, 2018) - A wall collapse on Friday resulted in injuries for two construction workers. According to reports, the workers were on site in the 29000 block of Picana Lane around 4:50 pm. It is believed that a gust of wind caused the wall to topple over and onto the workers. Fire department personnel said a strong storm in the area resulted in bricks from the wall tumbling on top of the workers.
The two injured victims were transported by EMS personnel to a local hospital where they are listed in fair condition. There is no further word on the extent of their injuries. The identity of the injured workers has not been revealed. Construction on site was halted for the evening following the incident.
Construction and job site accidents occur frequently in Florida. In 2016, there were over 300 fatal job site accidents reported in our state. Construction and building sites are regulated by federal, state and local laws which put certain protocols in place to protect workers from injury. In cases of accidents such as this one, a full investigation must be conducted to determine if safety protocol was followed. If the protocol was not followed, then an injury claim may result from the incident.
